As everyone saw, last night the big German unit went down hard. Luckily, he has Scotty Rocks on speed dial and had a quick chat with the Hoskinstown publican. Scotty revealed to the QUON today that:
"I have just got off the phone to Jens, and to clarify the situation; he didn’t pull out, the UCI forced him to retire. As the following vehicle was a neutral spares van (wheels only) and not the team car which was trailing the main group, he couldn’t get a replacement bike to continue after his crash. He began to run down the hill, and was catching the leaders, but the UCI ruled that he needed 2 wheels to be classified as still in the bicycle race. He then grabbed 2 wheels from the trailing spares vehicle, and continued running. As he was catching the yellow jersey, the UCI, fearing grave embarrassment, disqualified him, and ordered him into the trailing ambulance."
Understandably, Jens and Team QUON are shattered

Jens is impressive, and you know how hard it is to run with cycling shoes on. Those cleats make everything like skating on ice.
