'Smup and Princess Simon beat Radnell/Connell in photo finish' What a race; the weather was superb, the racing was QUONtroversial and the final result was a photo finish. Overall line honours went to the Uber Butlers (Mick and Dixie); Dixie proving to be the differnce in a blistering final run leg. However, winners for the day were Paul Smith and his Princess Simone. They pipped the Radnell/Connell combination by the smallest of margins (0.2 of second).
The start time was slightly altered to 2.15pm due to our real estate agents running on real estate agent's time. The Rock and Zany arrived fashionably late enough for the crowd to build and the tension to be at an all time high. With pre-race withdrawals from 50-1 outsiders the Almighty's and 1000-1 outsider Uber Ginga, the racing was always going to be tight.
Competitors had the option of a 200m swim or a 1km run to start proceedings (due to blue green algae concerns). As a result, Team Baby Jesus and the QM and his sponsor went out to an early lead on the back of some beautiful running from Sam Thommo and the Sponsor. The bike leg saw Joseph the Butler power around the course and close the gap to Baby Jesus and QM who embrawled in a holdsy-handsy-athon bike ride.
As if shaving your nuts every day isn't enought; Rads' Nads were in full effect on the bike as he powered around the 8km's in nothing but his speedos. He said after the race "I felt liberated". Indeed.
The kids of the QUON showed that we may have some future superstars in the making. Bella Terra has excellent running technique (when the crowds are in view, much like Zany) and the pebbles looked more like climbers than their old man. The Preston boys had lightning quick transitions and powered through the bike course ala Scotty in '93. Jacko had dropped Scotty on his way back into transition.
Charli was seen barking orders from her high chair on the bike. Wonder where she gets that from?
The Spillane clan looked ever the athletic family. LL cool J's (Livvy and Lexi) breezed around the course with consumate ease. One of them will represent Australia one day, you just wait and see. And not as an age group triathlete like Crafty. However, the day belonged to the Smuppy and his Princess who pipped the Radnell/Connell favourites by a nose. Their overall predicted time was within 20 seconds of their actual time. Well done to all. Final Results and an updated ladder will be provided after the big dance.
